I’ve started a War in the East 2 PBEM match against someone from the Combat Mission community. My opponent is playing as the Soviets and we settled on the Grand Campaign, spanning from the beginning of Barbarossa to the end of the war.
While I am making good distance for the timeline, I have serious concerns about Army Group North’s ability to continue without overextending the line. I have already had to breakthrough and relieve a mechanized division that got encircled by my opponent, thus the 2 salients you see in the North.
The weather ended up being terrible, heavy rain turning the fields into mud and slowing down my panzers from their Blitzkrieg. Checking the weather forecast, next week is more favorable. I silently chastise myself for being impatient as it becomes a good forcing function to reconsolidate the lines and prep the armor. Give the troops a bit of a reprieve where possible.
Army Group South makes a small foothold west of Kherson, and encircles Odessa.
I prep the Panzer Divisions to push through 3 identified weak points in the Soviet defense at Kiev.
Reconsolidate my lines, Army Group South
